Whitespace provide tailor made solutions
to the insurance market. I was taken on to design and implement a call handling
system for a large insurance company. The systems allowed for the processing
and rating of buildings and contents insurance. Stress tested to cope with
15000 new applications per day the system is a the heart of a large marketing
drive for a well known bank. The system was delivered on time, within budget
and to the customers satisfaction. While at Whitespace I developed their
testing and specification standards and introduced new working practices to
allow the company to better serve its client’s needs and free up programmer’s
time to pursue more R&D. The company also encouraged me to develop
marketing strategies and I wrote press releases as well as articles for
specialist magazines and increased the client income.

Adtools provide small, stand alone Win32
applications for web-based advertising and entertainment. With an emphasis on
portability and platform independence Adtools remain a market leader in viral
marketing tools. With their popular entertainment brands they enjoy a worldwide
reputation for innovative and quirky entertainment. I was actively involved in
the development and maintenance of the core engines whilst providing product
specific code enhancements. I had primary responsibility for all agency and
commercial contract work. Working to tight deadlines for demanding clients I
was responsible for liaising with the animators and sales team for our major
releases (including work on the Pink Panther, Reebok, the Grinch and the Rug
Rats). Development was principally in C/C++ (Win32) and XML using
Director 8 for animation.

CFS provides asset based accounting
solutions to the lease and loan finance industry. As part of a ring fenced team
working for a major city bank I was involved in the whole life cycle of product
development from GAP analysis to the design, documentation and
implementation of new functionality. Working as part of a team I worked as a
developer principally using Microsoft Visual C/C++ with MFC
and Stingray. We prided ourselves on delivering releases to the client
on time with a minimum of bugs. The backend was an Oracle database. I proved to
be adept at learning complex systems and quickly taught myself C++, SQL and
Oracle. In my own time I started a web based in-house magazine designed
to educate and inform staff of industry news in a relevant, accessible and
entertaining way.
